Biography:
Sci Fi trio is a unique blend of musical talents. What seems to be jazzy improv swirls into flowing melodies and hypnotic rythyms. Landing from interplanetary space into historic Wilmington, North Carolina, this trio of soulful musicians represents the essence of a local-based city group with a master plan. Their plan is, "To evolve strangely into the melodic world so greatly represented by our forefathers, the Music Brethrens" as said by the magic Hete on drums.
Sci fi has its talents spreading from the UNCW and Cape Fear Jazz music programs to years of experience performing in live bands. All three players were once involved in a group called, Fat Ellis, a horn-driven funk riot of a band that left there mark in the music industry. Travelling from New England to South Florida, these guys like to tour, they enjoy sharing and spreading good live music. Sci fi is soul from the ground up. They incorporate other musicians just as frequently as they themselves. Guitars, sitars, saxes, trumpets, the occassional vocalist all have made appearances on stage accompanying the Sci Fi trio.
Sci, Tim, and Hete have shared the stage with such musicians as Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Brother's Past, Benny Hill, Bobby Russell, DJ Willams Projekt, Dubconscious, Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, Barefoot Manner and many more.
Sci Fi Simmons is a classically-trained keyboardist that is young and very spontaneous. He is the heart of the group, the true driving force behind the Starship of musicians including the Sci Fi trio. Tim holds down the low-end of Sci Fi, adding a comical approach to music that livens up shows along with his powerful driving bass lines. Justin Heter is a focused percussionist exploring various styles of drumming, including blending jazz with carribean reggae, producing soulful beats. These guys work well together, harmonies and rythyms flow insync. Groove along to fused jazz styles and familiar melodies, song teases that make you smile, and enjoy the science fiction...

Sci Fi is currently in the studio working on yet another album. Working with White Rabbit Productions and Bluewater Studio, Sci Fi is kicking out their first full-length album.
Sci Fi has one full-length live cd, FAT EXPRESSIONS, available for download and sale.
Sci Fi has also been incorporated in such albums as Fat Ellis' first full-length album 'DIRTY DAY', recently released in March 2005. "Dirty Day" literally jam-packed with heavy key solos and dirty bass lines, the heart of Fat Ellis. Dirty funk, space jazz, even rythym and blues made it onto this album!
'LIVE AT THE NEIGHBORHOOD THEATRE' was recorded in Charlotte, NC in 2005 and consists of six songs.
'THE STARSHIP HAS LANDED' is Fat E's original demo cd consisting of five studio tracks recorded at the Cape Fear Studio in Wilmington, NC and one live track recorded at Ziggy's in Winston-Salem, NC.
